Shout out from Florida!

Hey Yall! Sorry I didn't make it on last night. By the time I got parked, showered, and back in the truck, I was on fumes at that point. So tonight, I wanted to make it up to you all by doing what I said I would do the other day, posting from Florida. But wait! There's more! As you see on this post, I took a few pics from here at the truck stop I'm parked at. Been a busy few days! after running the load from Kansas to the boarder of Arkansas and Tennessee, I ran my next load for Starbucks down here to Florida. Then a load from Florida to South Carolina, then a load from South Carolina to Tennessee, delivered that one last night, and then I'm on another Starbucks run to Florida.

The plans changed though, because initially my load today was a load from Tennessee to Kansas. I had planned to pick that up this morning, and get a majority of the way to the customer tonight, parking at Petro in Oak Grove, Missouri. That's like 30 minutes from where the wife and girls are at, visiting her parents for 4-5 days. I reached out to the wife and told her that I'd be coming to Kansas, and parking at Petro in Missouri, and that if she wanted to stop on her way back towards home, that we could do the breakfast buffet. She was like "sure." So much excitement I know. ;)

Unfortunately, as I was omw out of Florida with my beer load, I got a message "load number _____ has cancelled." I didn't know which load it was because I had a few assigned. So when I had a chance I logged on to look and saw it was the one to Kansas. I looked at the board and there was still a high dollar load to Florida for Saturday, so I went ahead and booked that. It's been months since I last did 2 runs to Florida almost back to back. I wish it was in the same week cuz then my revenue would be awesome. But my first one was Wednesday delivering Thursday, and this one delivers tomorrow which falls on the new pay week.) So the way I figured it, and the reason I jumped at the load, was that I'm starting the new week off strong.

So tomorrow I go 90 miles to deliver this load, then deadhead up to Jacksonville to pick up beer to go to South Carolina again. And then the plan is to hopefully catch a load back to Tennessee to take a day off and reset my hours. At this time tho, there's no loads listed yet out of South Carolina. I don't want to deadhead back, but we will definitely see what happens. Anyway, omw down here this time, my load was ready last night so basically when I parked at the yard, I had already delivered and grabbed my next load. All I had to do was get up this morning, do my pre-trip and take off. Tried to get up just before 6 but ended up not taking off till like 7:50.

Would have made better time but today people were struggling to drive. I say that because there were multiple car accidents, some of them within a couple miles of the previous ones, all rear endings. I'm like "holy crap! people cant drive today!" So of course, that meant traffic stopping for 30 minutes up to an hour or so. When I got here to Petro, it was like, 8PM. 2/3 of the parking spaces were still open, which is always good. Got parked pretty close to the building. Not the front row unfortunately, but still pretty close.

So, in closing, I wanted to add some value for you all tonight. Something that I picked up from a video I watched earlier. Here goes! Don't go around saying you are broke! Even if you have no money, as long as you have courage, as long as you refuse to quit no matter what people around you try to tell you, YOU AREN'T BROKE! Don't give up! Don't let ANYONE tell you that you can't do what you want to do! Don't let anyone tell you that you can't have what you want! I don't care who it is! Whether it's your mom, your sister, or even your spouse! If you want it, don't let anyone stop you!

The reason I say that is 1) to provide value to you. and 2) because I'm pursuing my dreams as an Entrepreneur, and working on being able to hang up my keys and come home. I have people that are close to me that have actually told me I shouldn't do it, and that if I want to come home, just go apply for a local job. The problem for me with that is, even if I got a decent paying local job, the money would never be enough. My wife and I would still always be really tight on money, and would fight a lot like we do right now. I don't want that for us. In fact! I want SO MUCH MORE! So, I refuse to give up. The way I am looking at it is like this. I WILL GET THERE! No matter how much work I have to do, how long I have to stay out here in the truck while working on my business part time during whatever free time I have (which is never that much). No matter if I'm always the only one that seems to believe that I can! You are all that matters! Even if everyone else says it can't be done, if you think it can? DO IT! Don't give up and then years down the line wonder "what if?"

I've actually already done the "what if" stuff quite a bit in my life. I've wondered if I had only done ______, if I'd be in a better place by now. You just never know! Maybe I would be, maybe I wouldn't be.

But I need to not focus on the past. As Tony Robins says. You can't drive in to the future, if you're looking in the rear view mirror that is the past. If you try driving while looking in the rear view mirror, you'll crash!

That cats name is coco. Altho I'm nice to her, she hates guys. Something happened b4 we adopted her that caused her to not like guys.

How do I know? On her bottom lip her jaw looks off. Almost like she was beaten or something.

I love that cat, but I for the most part don't do anything cuz I figure I'll just leave her alone.

Do you have a cat or pet in general that doesn't like you?

She opens up to me if I play with her with a cat toy. Otherwise it's run and hide.

Are you a cat person? Honestly I'm not but they've grown on me the longer they are with us.

Sorry y'all. I'm totally dozing. I'll let you go. Be back Soon!

So this will be fun. Doing this entry from my phone cuz when I logged on my computer, it was lagging and the page wouldn't load. But, I had figured on coming on and posting tonight so I figured I'd at least get a short one from my phone. The pic up above is of my 3 ladies at home. They are currently at the in-laws in Kansas till Sunday. I def wish I could have gone too but of course had to work.

I'm down here in Florida parked at a Petro about 80 miles from where I'm delivering. Got here really early compared to the norm, it was even still light out. Went in and grabbed some dinner and on my way back to the truck, a homeless vet in a wheel chair approached me asking for help. I gave him the change I had on me.

After I was laying in my bunk with all my windows covered, I heard a knock on my door. I didn't answer. Mainly cuz by that point it was 11pm and I figured just stay locked inside where I'm safe.

So, I'll call it a night as I gotta get to sleep. I'll try to get a good Florida pic for y'all and post it with an entry tomorrow. Y'all have a good night!

Happy 4th of July!

Hey ya'll! I hope everyone here in the states had a good 4th of July with their friends and families. I got home this afternoon, hung out with the family for a few hours, then we went and had BBQ for dinner with 2 friends. Didn't really see any fireworks except for the occasional site we saw on our way home with fireworks going off in the sky.

We would have tried to hunt down where they are doing fireworks, but the wife and girls are taking off early for Kansas City for a 4-5 day vacation and I'm taking off to get loaded in the morning to head to Florida. I'd love to go with them, but until my business is fully off and running, we can't both afford to be off for the vacay. That's kind of why I figured I'd take the weekend off in Kansas City when there weren't any loads, and enjoyed 2 days in the hotel just chilling out. I wouldn't have minded having more time to chill, and I know when I no longer have to worry about money, I will definitely take a longer vacation. Preferably somewhere with a beach and alcohol. ;)

OH! Here's something ya'll might get a kick out of. I parked my truck at Walmart when I was in KC. It was parked there 48 hours,, and wasn't even in the way. There's a side street with a dead end. I backed into the dead in, and was basically just parked in the corner. So, yesterday I get back to the truck by 11AM, get to my load pickup at 12, I'm in the dock for a little bit when it hits 1 oclock, and my fleet manager calls me. "Walmart is threatening to tow your truck?" "Oh really? I'd like to see them try!" "what do you mean?" "Jacquie I'm at the customer getting loaded. Haven't been at Walmart for like 2 hours." She was like "Oh, ok."

I'm like SMH. lol. I'm glad I figured I wasn't gonna push it longer than 48 hours with me parked there. Some places you can get away with a while. That Walmart, we can park short term but I guess I was there just a little too long. Good thing I got back and left b4 they decided to tow. So when I was delivering in Memphis Arkansas at Dollar General Distribution Center, I ripped my shorts. I was like "SHIT!"

So pretty much any time I had to get out of the truck until my wife picked me up at the truck stop 10 miles from here, I walked around with my shorts ripped. Oh well. LOL. So when I got home, I first ran to Walmart to grab new shorts, and then I ran to Publix cuz they have my high PH water I like. Got all stocked up on water, and I grabbed some trash bags cuz I'm not throwing away my plastic bottles. I figure I'll bag them up, collect them, and whenever I get a chance when back here some time on a day off, I will try to find somewhere I can turn them all in to be recycled instead of adding them to landfills. I figure, a little way of doing my part to help the environment.

About time to head out

So it's finally time to pack up and check out! So I wake up to my alarm, head down for breakfast, check the load board on my phone while I'm at it, and now the soonest load available picks up on Thursday out here. So I look out in Tennessee and there's a load to Florida picking up on the 5th, so I book that one. I tell my fleet manager to please put an authorization empty move and that I'm deadheading to Tennessee to get back to my family by the 4th since there's nothing out here, and that I booked a load to Florida on the 5th.

Her first response was "are you crazy?" I was like "Jacquie, I've been here in Kansas since Saturday morning. If I'm stuck here I'll spend the money on a hotel anyway, and so if I'm gonna spend the money I'll just spend it on fuel and get the hell out of here finally. Funny thing was, then my fleet manager calls me and tells me she has a load that just came available today going to Memphis. It has a delivery date for the 5th. I asked her if it can deliver early so I can get it there today. She said it looks like I can. She said "If you want to deadhead to get home for the 4th I definitely get it cuz I know you have been stuck there for the weekend, so if you don't want to run the load I understand.

I said, "if I can deliver early then no I'll take it. I just would love to see my family by tomorrow because they're taking off for 5 days to come out here to Kansas and if I don't see them now I won't see them till after next weekend when they get back. Part of me was thinking "if I take the load I might not get home today." The other part of me was thinking "yeah but if you take the load, that's $500 for the week before you run your high dollar Florida load Wednesday." So, I decided it was probably a good idea to go ahead and do the load. As long as I get it there today and can drop it Im fine with that, so I can not be stuck around memphis long term. Not really wanting to be stuck there.

Oh well, you know how it is. Until the business fully takes off, I'm doing what I have to do for my family. So anyway, I gotta get packed up and get ready to head back to the truck, but I just wanted to hop on here for a minute and do a post for ya'll. Hope everyone is doing well and is ready to celebrate the 4th tomorrow. I still think its funny how this weekend was called the "weekend of the 4th." I get it, but in all honesty the 4th isn't till Tuesday so technically it'd the weekend of the 1st and 2nd. LOL Yes I'm a smart ass. So I'll leave you with that for now! If I get a chance later today either after I park for the night, or if I make it home, I'll try to come on here and do another post for you guys.

Little exercise is always good

So the last time I stayed here at this Super 8, was like August of last year. When I was last here, and was with my wife and girls, a few blocks away was a restaurant called Winsteads. They have good food but are especially known for their shakes. So probably around like, 7 tonight, I took my laundry downstairs to throw it in the wash. I figured while it was in the wash, I would walk over to Winsteads and get a shake. I get all the way over there, and am basically just across the street from them and I can see that the building has a big "Site Available" sign on the window. I'm like "aw shit, they aren't open anymore!"

Thankfully Dennys is not far from there, so on my way back to the hotel I stopped in Dennys and got a shake and a sampler to go. Then I did a Facebook live while walking back here. Very nice day outside today, but still a bit too hot for my liking. By the time I got back here, the washing machine was done, and I was able to move my stuff over to the dryer. Came back up to my room, ate my food, enjoyed my shake, and had a nice phone chat with my wife. She got pretty upset about stuff going on at her job. It definitely made me think about how much I look forward to being able to not "have" to work a regular job. That's not just for me, I don't want my wife to "have" to work either. Obviously I'll support whatever she wants to do, so if she wants to just switch her job to part time, then that's her choice. Me tho, I don't want to be working a 40 hour 9-5 job and also working on my business. What I intend is to get the business to the point where that's all I do, so the rest of the time I can spend working out, exercising, getting back in shape, hanging with the wife and girls, and traveling to visit friends and family whenever we want.

So on a different note, this weekend I was on one channel yesterday which was all about extreme weather incidents, and then today, I have been on a different channel pretty much watching CSI Miami. the first half of the day, while multi-tasking at times. Sometimes laying in bed enjoying the day and watching the show, and other times still watching the show and being on my computer doing stuff online. Probably around like 5 or 6 tonight, the shows started repeating. The last few shows were ones that were already on today, so when I got my food up here I didn't mind getting busy doing other stuff because I already knew what was going on in the current show.

So, in conclusion, I still don't know what I'll be doing tomorrow. Still no loads on the board for tomorrow yet. There was one, but it was for the 5th, which is Wednesday. So here's what I told my wife were the probably options. If there's not a load till Wednesday, I might look to see whats available back near home and figure fuck it, I'll deadhead (drive with an empty trailer) back to Tennessee tomorrow and spend the 4th with my family, and then take off with a load Wednesday. My plan would have been fine this week if it wasn't a holiday week. Taking off Monday and figuring work Monday through Saturday and continue to work on making the paychecks consistent. Another possible option if I don't drive all the way home is pay more money to extend my stay here for probably 2 days and keep hanging out until I can get my next load. Seems like if I wait till the 5th, then either way I'm going to spend money. I'm either going to spend 120 or so to remain here in the hotel, or I'm going to spend probably the same amount on fuel to get me back to tennessee.

Thats it for today yall! I thank ya'll for reading. Talk to you again soon!

Too much the early bird this morning

Good morning. So when I checked into the hotel yesterday, the lady that was taking my payment was training. The reason I say that is because there was a guy there saying "click here" and "do that" and "type this." When I was checked in, they told me that breakfast went from 6 to 9AM. So I got to sleep probably by like 1:30 in the morning last night, and set my alarm for just b4 8. Hit snooze until 8:30 and then got up and went down to breakfast wanting to be there b4 it stopped at 9. Here's the funny thing. I get down there and I see the hours. Breakfast stops at 9AM Monday through Friday, and stops at 10AM on the weekend. I was like "aw man, I could have slept later."

Oh well. Got me some biscuits and gravy, and some cranberry juice. I sat down with my plate and 2 cups of juice, and realized I had to use the microwave cuz the biscuits were cold. The gravy was hot, but cold biscuits, so yeah, I wanted to warm them up. I literally was away from my spot for about a minute, and I come back and some random guy had sat in my seat right in front of my juice and was eating his stuff. I was like "ok that's weird," grabbed my juice cups and went to a different table. In my head I was like "ok dude, did you not see that someone was already there?" There were other tables that were free but he picked my seat even though there were juice cups sitting there.

So, I admit I slept pretty good. Despite Super 8 being a cheap hotel, as a trucker it doesn't take much for me to be comfortable. Gotta enjoy the little things in life! This is the 2nd time I've stayed at this hotel. The last time, it was about a year ago with Erin and the girls. I was comfortable but Erin was all about how basic the hotel is. I'm like "yeah it's cheap but there's air conditioning, comfortable beds, breakfast, etc." It's always good to look at the positives. In life there are always too many things that are negative that tend to draw your focus. Take me for instance. We are struggling quite a bit financially, and just trying to survive. The wife and inlaws don't believe that I should be committing myself to trying to get a business off the ground online. However, the way I am looking at things is like this. Why settle for how things are currently, and just keep trying to do the best that I can in my current role as an OTR trucker. The way I see it is, no matter if I get my weekly income average up a bit and am more consistent with it out on the road, it'll never be enough. One week might be better, and the next week not so good, then the next week better again. So as an owner operator out here, it's a roller coaster. Good one week, stressed the next, bills paid sometimes, and have to make arrangements at other times.

The reason I'm going into business for myself and my family online is because I have so many hopes and dreams for us. My plans for my family are to not have to worry about how the bills will get paid, if we can afford to take time off to go on vacation, if we can afford go out on the town and do something as a family. I'm tired of not being able to afford to take more than just one day off in a week. I'm tired of having to call the bills and make payment arrangements, or paying rent a week or so late because we don't have it on the 1st. I'm tired of fighting with my wife because she partially lives in the past and compares my income now to when I was driving for Schneider and made an average of $1500 to $2000 a week. Where as, with my current carrier, they don't have the same amount of loads available as Schneider.
