April 8th, 2010 Day 2

Today is Day 2 of my year long quest to better my life overall. It has been so long since I have kept up an active blog. The last time I did was on a site called Xanga. So, I am already noticing that it is a little bit difficult for me to write up this daily blog.

So, here we go everybody! Yesterday when I wrote the entry for Day 1, I was getting ready for work. I work as a Security Guard overnight and was just getting this blog set up shortly before then. I didn't have the time to write about everything I wanted to cover on the first day.

Here is how I am going to approach things with this blog. The first couple of days I will try to include random things about me with the intention to let all of my readers get to know me a little bit. Also, I am working on my skills as a writer, and so I am going to do my best to be as neatly organized as I can be. Currently I am in the process of writing a book. Also, the class I am in at the college is English Comp. It has helped me a lot in my quest to become the best writer possible. Last night while I was at work, I was standing guard outside of a room and a painting just like the one you see posted here really caught my eye and drew me in. I couldn't help but want to upload and write about it.

This picture just shouted out to me. I felt as though its many layers drew me in. As I stared at it, I could see each and every layer of it, as if I could see deep inside the picture. If any of you have the same feelings or thoughts about the picture, please comment about them, or if you have seen some kind of art that just captivates you, I would love to see those as well and hear how it made you feel.

To help lift myself up and improve my life, I have decided that I am going to embrace those things that have made me happier in the past.

1) I love to write. Therefore, I'm writing a book. I have dreamed of being a published author for many years now, and decided that now is as good a time as any to pursue that dream. Why not, right? I intend, by the end of this blog to have it completed and to be either working on getting it published, or to have it published already. // Writing is a passion of mine, and so I am making the biggest effort possible to make sure to write as much as possible every day. It does not matter if I am sitting somewhere not doing a single thing. My mind is always swarming with thoughts and ideas, and my talent for expressing those is to write about them. For some people, the talent is drawing them. Mine is to write anything and everything I can.

2) Reading has also become something I love to do. In the past, I was never a big reader. The reason? I guess you could say I just didn't enjoy it. I was very slow at it, and just could not sit with a book very long. About a month ago, a book caught my eye. It was called "The Kingdom Keepers". I don't know what drew me in about it. However, I bought it, sat down with it, and was totally overwhelmed by how much it brought to life in me. Since then I have gone through Kingdom Keepers 1 and 2, all 4 books of the Twilight Saga, and now I am reading a Stephen King novel called Duma Key. I already have another book ready and waiting. For Easter, Erin bought me the first of the House of Night series. I honestly have not started that one just yet, but I know I will get to it soon. The point is, now I have a love for books that I never had before and it amazes me! Reading and Writing are the two big things I love to do, and they both are things that make me happy. //

3) Exercise is a very powerful thing. Not only do you improve your overall health, but it helps you to feel better physically. Not only does it help you to feel better physically but emotionally as well. On top of writing every single day both in my book and here on the blog, I have decided I am going to go to the YWCA here in town Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. I will be working to build up my endurance slowly, working towards being able to complete 2 miles on the treadmill. Today I followed through and went to the Y. Today was hard being the first time I've worked out in almost a year. However, I pushed myself starting with 1 mile today and building up from that. I wasn't even really tired when I stopped. The reason I decided to push to only 1 mile today was mainly because my legs were burning like you wouldn't imagine.

So, in closing for today here are the lessons I would like to leave you all with.

Lesson One: Embrace the things you are most passionate about. The things that make you happy. If you love to sing and dance, then sing and dance! If you love to read, then read every book you possibly can. For me, I recently developed a love for reading, and so every day not only do I write, but I will be making it a point to read as much as I can also. Do what you love! And do it as much as you possibly can!

Lesson 2: Exercise Exercise Exercise! I know how it is. I'm one of those people too. Personally I do not really like to run or work out either. The thing I've noticed though is the more you do it, the easier it gets. The more you do it, the better you will feel. The better you feel physically, the better you feel about yourself emotionally as well.

Consider these the lessons for days 1 and 2. As I continue with the blog, each day I will try to think of what the lesson for the day will be. I hope you all get something useful out of what I post here.

Thanks for being here.
