So this weekend has gone well. It's always nice to be off from work. Yesterday because I recently finished the Divinci Code and Angels and Demons on my kindle, we went on redbox.com and reserved angels and demons. We already have the divinci code at home, so I drove over to a red box and we rented a few movies. We watched both the angels and demons and the divinci code last night. This afternoon, Lex and I went to the sunday afternoon skating. The skating was not bad at all. There were a lot less people there, which was nice because we could use the whole floor instead of on saturday nights when there are a ton of middle school kids and half of them are standing around on the floor dancing.
The skates still are not the greatest, and we realized tonight that the skate floor apparently is not level. As you skate across the floor, you can feel yourself going up, then down, then up , then down, etc. They did the Hoky Poky, and lex and I were sitting on one of the benches for a minute. I was like "let's go!" she was like "no! i'll fall!" So i went out and started doing the hokie poke thinking maybe she would come out and join me. She did start doing the hokie pokie a little bit, but mostly she just started skating in a circle and casually doing the motions. After the hokie pokie was the chicken dance. I haven't done either of those in like 6 years or longer. The skating rink that Lori and I went to back when we were married was simply skating I think. They didn't do anything like the hokie pokie or chicken dance or whatever.
Doing those things today was interesting. I could have been really shy and not danced around mainly because I was like the only adult that was out there doing it... there were adults from the birthday party that was going on, that were out there helping their little ones do the dances and stuff, but otherwise I was so out of place, but hey, I guess you gotta embrace the child inside of ya to stay young some times eh? Doing them today and having to "turn myself around," got me back into skating backwards again. I had resisted getting back into going backwards because I was worried about the skates and the floor. The skates if you lean one way or the other, they turn, and that with the floor not being all level, I was afraid I would wipe out really bad. It's still difficult to go backwards because I gotta work really hard to keep the skates from turning on their own...
So tonight I recommended to Erin that we forward along the idea to her mom about Lex's birthday coming up at the end of this month, and that perhaps a good gift would be a pair of roller skates of lex's own. ;) I plan to get a pair of skates myself also. I also noticed that apparently from last week to this week, skating was a little bit easier. I must be getting back in shape again, because last week i could do a few laps and then I had to sit down because of my feet and legs hurting, and being winded. Today, I could do more laps, and skate longer, but I really noticed when it was like 50 minutes till the end of open skating, and Lex and I went back on the floor. I alternated from backwards skate to forwards skate and such, and went around a few dozen times and really didn't come back off the floor until it was close to 4:30. I thought "wow, I must be getting a little bit more in shape,,, my feet aren't hurting and I'm not as tired as I was last week."
So, on that note, I will go ahead and head out. I will write more again soon.
